Any New Glocks Coming Out - Federal agents protecting America's most powerful weapons trucks will be armed with pistols inspired by Gucci's Glock.
The National Nuclear Security Administration, or NNSA, which oversees America's nuclear weapons stockpile, recently announced plans to arm security personnel guarding convoys of hydrogen bombs and other sensitive cargo with new, highly sophisticated 9mm pistols. If all goes according to plan, individuals working for the NNSA's Office of Secure Transportation, or OST, will receive ZEV Technologies' OZ9 Combat pistols, a design that evolved from the iconic Glock series and looks like it was taken straight out of the movie John The Wick.

Originally established in 1975 as the Transportation Assurance Division of the Energy Research and Development Administration, OST is responsible for ensuring the safe movement of nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, and "special nuclear material." The office's workforce includes heavily armed federal agents who follow convoys of vehicles, which include highly specialized tractor-trailers with James Bond-type protective suits, or are otherwise ready to respond to attacks or other contingencies. "The OST has an operational need to replace its current secondary weapon with a 9mm pistol that is not only concealable, but provides the OST FA [Federal Agents] with day and night short-range defensive capabilities when their primary is not in use," the NNSA contracting notice explains published online June 24, 2022 The statement said the plan is to procure the OZ9 pistols "through language other than full and open competition," which typically refers to a single-source contract.
It is not immediately clear what the current standard weapon is for OST agents. The photo, shown below, posted on the official NNSA Facebook account on September 16, 2020, shows then-NNSA Administrator Lisa E. Gordon-Hagerty as she "demonstrates her skills with a .45 Smith & Wesson M&P during a visit to Agent Operations Command Eastern [OST] at the Y-12 Homeland Security Complex."
Regardless, “based on the testing criteria, the ZEV OZ-9 pistol not only achieves the highest technical score among the six (6) 9mm pistol manufacturers, but the ZEV OZ-9 pistol received the highest individual scores when it came to weight , damage resistance, low-light operations, drop capability, ergonomics, breakdowns, recoil management and overall feel," the contract notice added. "Field testing was conducted between January 25 and 27, 2022."
The OZ9s that NNSA plans to purchase for OST will be in the X Combat configuration. This is a version of the OZ9C compact pistol equipped with a full-size grip "to create a pistol that is easier to control and handle" but "without the added weight or length," according to ZEV Technologies.
Book Of Glock
The OZ9 itself, which was publicly presented in 2019, has an interesting story behind it. It's a very custom Glock – except it's not.
You see, before the introduction of the OZ9, ZEV Technologies had already established itself as a supplier of high-end custom components for Glocks that could transform one of the popular polymer-framed pistols into a so-called 'Gucci Glock'. These components included their own line of slides, triggers and other parts for these pistols. The company has expanded its offer to other types of firearms.
ZEV is just one of a number of companies in this area. Civilian interest in custom Glocks in the United States has grown further in recent years thanks in no small part to Keanu Reeves using tricked-out examples from Taran Tactical Innovations (TTI) as the title character in the John Wick sequels.
Long before John Wick was a household name, custom Glocks gained a significant following among military and law enforcement users in the United States, including elite operators assigned to the military's legendary Delta Force, such as read more

Here. These less fancy custom Glocks, including a configuration known as the 'Roland Special', helped pave the way for the extreme customization we see today. The popularity of the controversial 80% unfinished pistol frames, where a pistol based on the Glock platform would have to be built by an individual from scratch, also helped accelerate the concept and the industry that supported it.
The OZ9 effectively combines many of ZEV's custom Glock parts, as well as a grip design also inspired by ZEV 1911-type pistols, with a new center "receiver" or "chassis" that also acts as a stock part. This allows relatively quick swapping of different slide mounts and barrels, as well as entire grip frames, and provides a high degree of modularity that is increasingly common in new pistol designs. The OZ9 slide is designed to allow for the relatively quick addition of a small red dot optic, while the housing has an additional built-in rail for attaching lights and lasers. A custom match tube is also installed.
Other features include a machined slide with a ton of serrations and a custom frame with cutouts to protect the index finger trigger – both common Glock modifications. Flashes, compensators and various sights can also be easily mounted. The heart of the gun is the ZEV trigger which also uses a form of Glock's 'safe action' safety system.
So ZEV's pistol is not a Glock, although it is certainly heavily inspired by the Glock. The weight of the standard full-size OZ9 and the current-gen 9mm Glock 17 are within a few ounces of each other, with ZEV's offering being slightly heavier due to the extra metal used in the center chassis.
New Handguns On The Way In 2022
"This solid steel frame runs the length of the gun allowing for full integration of the locking block," according to ZEV's website. "Extended rails on the steel receiver help provide more than double the contact area of the slide. Additional benefits include channels that clear debris while also acting as lube reservoirs for high-friction areas."
The OZ9 "is designed and engineered for balance," the website adds. "That's one of the first things you notice when you hold this gun. The balance is just what every shooter is looking for; a more controllable gun with less recoil, less barrel spin, and faster, more accurate shots."
Basically, ZEV's offering is certainly still very reminiscent of the overall look of the famous Austrian weapon, or at least a highly customized example. As for the rest, the OZ9 still uses Glock magazines. OST's contract notice says it wants to buy 17-round Glock frames from another company, Magpul, to go with their OZ9.
Exactly how much OZ9 wants to buy NNSA for OST in total and how much the weapons might cost is not clear. The pistol's custom Glock pedigree is somewhat reflected in its price, with the compact X Combat having an MSRP of $1,499 on ZEV's website. This is by no means the most expensive handgun on the commercial market in the United States, but it is still nearly three times the average price of a new Glock 17 or Smith and Wesson M&P.
A Gun Covered In Legos To Look Like A Toy Sets Off A Furor As Shootings Soar
It is also not clear when OST agents can start receiving OZ9. Any single-source contract must be justified and approved, something the NNSA hopes to have done, at least in part, through comparative testing it did with five other types of unspecified handguns in January. The June 24 procurement notice said any company that believed it had a competitive alternative could submit a bid before the July 9 deadline.
So, unless the NNSA gets a better deal, the personnel tasked with keeping America's most powerful weapon on the move, among other highly sensitive payloads, could soon be wearing the high-end OZ9 on their hips. For a long time, the GLOCK G46 was a well-kept secret and could only be found at government tenders. For the first time, the Austrian manufacturer offers a gun with a rotating barrel and safety system. We tested the new service pistol of the German state police Sachsen-Anhalt. Read below how it was at the shooting range!
The G46 is GLOCK's answer to the Technical Requirements (TR) of the German police forces for service pistols. Of course, it comes a little late, because most of the German federal states already acquired new generations of service pistols some time ago. However, GLOCK managed to score at least one point in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt (see our article). About 8,600 G46 pistols will be released there by 2021. There are rumors that the TR police at the time was deliberately composed in such a way that the very successful international "class leader" from Austria had to stay out.
Bending prongs in the front slide area as well as a slide stop lever on the right side can also be found on the G46.
The New Glock 45 Leaked... And It's Not A .45 Acp ...
One point of contention in the technical requirements, where the GLOCK had failed so far, was the fact that the gun could be disassembled without pulling the trigger. What is not a big disadvantage to experienced shooters is probably viewed differently after a security check
